This is kind of cool. SaskTel (a Canadian telco in… well, you figure it out) is now offering a voicemail-to-text conversion. For $10 a month (or 40 cents per voicemail), any time someone leaves a voicemail for you, the service will “automatically” send you the text of the message via SMS.
It’s not clear to me if there are humans doing the transcribing or (gak) some kind of voice-recognition software, but I’m dying to try it out.
Anyone in Saskatchewan have this on their account yet? If I left you a voicemail message, could you send me back what you get?

Tod - have you tried Jott.com? They’ll e-mail you a transcription of short messages that you phone into them. I’ve got them on my cel, so for fast notes I call, talk, and the info arrives in my Inbox.

That is a really cool idea. I for one would take it up. SaskTel has been fairly proactive in what you would think is a fairly quiet market (i.e., was one of the first with video capability through the phone lines, if memory serves).
Living in BC, we’re pretty much ‘forced’ to deal with TELUS, who I think is a good company mind you, but could learn some customer service manners if you ask me. Check out what I had to say on my blog (click my name) if you’re interested.
